As they say the best camera is the one you have with you. And these days that means a smartphone. But most of the millions of video clips stored on smartphones end up online according to the New York Times. The barriers to getting your clips online include YouTube’s 15-minute upload limit and unwieldy file sizes making email impossible. We would add that it’s a pain to offload files to a computer and then upload them to a sharing service — it kinda defeats the purpose of shooting something in the field to be unable to upload on the spot. Also, the lack of having wifi on hand when you need it hampers getting your video to the web while it’s still top of mind.
The article touches on free apps SocialCam and Thwapr for iPhone, and Qik for Android and a wide range of smartphones.
