The subject line for the email we received was blank. We had no idea what “Axium Is No More” could mean. Then the phone started to ring and we heard that Axium International had filed for bankruptcy. While The New York Post sees the writer’s strike as the straw that broke the camel’s back, we put a call in to the Los Angeles court responsible for overseeing the bankruptcy. The clerk told us a little gossip that the trustee in charge of the case had been replaced by someone who was a friend of the head of Axium who had embezzled funds. It’s a lottery system for the trustees, so it’s quite unusual for the Court to change trustees. This clerk told us that the ex-girlfriend of the crooked Axium boss had called the day before to say that the new trustee was a buddy of the Axium boss. In any event, despite losing several thousand dollars in payroll for our Gossip Girl jobs, we of course paid our union crew again.
