Travis is the brains behind a sculpture made of human sweat which slowly melts over time. The title of the piece? Why “Sweat Popsicle” of course!

Like all the season two Artstar contestants, Travis is a student at the School Of Art Institute Of Chicago.

    Artist Statement:

Primarily using materials of corporal quality, my work explores the transitory nature of existence. Sculptures slowly disintegrate and require replenishing to “live” on. Videos capture the transformation of individuals into a mob collective. Portraits are collections of fragments and stray marks that are taken from, but show little reference to, the original photographs. Through the constant movement of growing up in a military family I developed an interest in the negotiation of shifting space, both physical and emotional. Conceptually driven, my work has a minimalist bend to it as I tend to use the fewest materials possible. A particular sculpture, Sweat Popsicle, is comprised of frozen sweat and displayed in a humming glass-door freezer. The bodily fluid that was once an intrinsic part of a person becomes an object that exists as a distinct entity on a separate plane. Eventually, it will evaporate and I must routinely gather more sweat for it to continue to exist. Tedious and absurd, sometimes this accumulating process becomes more compelling than the original idea and develops into a video of act. I am interested in what moves beyond conventional representation and intend for my art to exist in a new geography, one that redefines the distance between ritual and routine, original source and final work.
