George Spyros received a NYFA Fellowship for his work on the feature film Last Days of May.
Artist Statement:
The cinema is not primarily a visual medium, rather, it is a psychological realm where a complex process of recording human experience occurs before and behind the camera, and is reactivated and felt by individuals. Whereas the eye thinks it knows, the ear and the rest of our faculties lead us to question and search, to trust our feelings and to hear ourselves listening to others.” Spyros’ film Last Days in May, shot in 21 days, includes naturalistic performances, lighting, and camerawork, in order to create the illusion of haphazard reality. “The experience of truth, barely representable on any page or screen, may only be felt for a fleeting moment before it evaporates, as it does in everyday life.
