The outrageous Margaret Cho’s live concert film was shot against a stark black background leaving much of the frame empty. Our graphic design solution placed movie clips within an animated title treatment. Another challenge was to crossover from her core (and intensely devoted) gay/les/bi audience to “straight” middle-class viewers. Big City’s creative team developed a 30 targeting straight women by concentrating on the sexual habits of their men as well as women’s own obsessive need to remain attractive at all costs. For maximum impact, the spot is structured to build to a single punch line, leaving the viewer eager for more. Post-produced entirely in-house: offline, animation and uncompressed online.
