Big City had the pleasure and good fortune to shoot in Reebok’s world headquarters on a number of occasions for agency client McGarryBowen.
Reebok International Ltd. – World Headquarters
Canton, Massachusetts
Turner Construction (in a joint venture partnership with O’Connor Constructors) provided general contracting and extensive preconstruction services for the 522,000 sq. ft. Reebok World Headquarters; an office complex consisting of four office buildings which include 286,000 square-feet of corporate office space, conference space, seminar rooms and training facilities, biomechanical labs, advertising and design studios, showrooms, executive offices, computer/telecommunications room, security center, a fitness/recreation center complete with aerobics studios, an indoor basketball court, locker rooms, reception areas, lounges and a kitchen and cafeteria. Additional features include a soccer field, running track, and basketball and tennis courts, a softball field and two parking garages to accommodate 1,200 vehicles. The entry area features an expansive curved and angled corridor, a perfect place to exhibit an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. This project features four 100,000 sq. ft. office buildings connected by a single “spine” building that is approximately 500 feet long, a 30,000 sq. ft. fitness center, an 18,000 sq. ft. onsite guesthouse and an 8,500 sq. ft. cafeteria.
Also included in the project were two parking garages, totaling 351,000 sq. ft., and a 13,000 sq. ft. meeting and exhibit hall with conference space and a product testing and training area.
The Reebok World Headquarters features seven outdoor athletic fields: regulation little league softball field, regulation soccer pitch, 400 meter Olympic running track, basketball court, beach volleyball court, and two tennis courts featuring a plexi surface.
Reebok’s concern for people and the planet is reflected in the environmental design of the Reebok World Headquarters. “Smart” building systems help conserve energy, while high performance, energy efficient glass enhances indoor natural lighting and visual connection with nature. Fresh air is introduced into the office environment through efficient ventilation systems that replace office air every 10 minutes. Environmentally friendly carpeting, produced in mills energized by solar power, is used throughout the Reebok World Headquarters.
Demonstrating the company’s commitment to green initiatives, employee parking is consolidated into two structured garages to retain maximum green space. Reebok’s storm water retention and recharge system allows the company to use the rain water for irrigation, reducing the impact on the domestic water supply and sanitary sewer system.
NBBJ Architects innovative design expresses the image and energy of Reebok. A key element is the unique glass circulation spine. The arc-shaped spine connects the four office buildings, creating a ‘Main Street’ that serves as a backbone of the building. 51,000 SF of articulated glass window wall is supported by a custom tensioned cable curtain wall system.
