Videomaker demos Sony’s NXCAM Super 35mm Camcorder, the NEX FS-100 and finds some drawbacks like the need for a lock for the LCD screen when using the detachable viewfinder and a weight imbalance on the hand grip, but is surprised at how well the camera performs.

Image Converter for 2/3″ cameras

The PRO35 2/3“ converter is used for all 2/3” camcorders from Sony, Panasonic, Thomson, etc. with a standard B4 camera mount. Different lens mounts for the PRO35, easy to interchange, make available hundreds of 35mm lenses, film or still photography available for use. HVX200 Product summary

This camera is versatile and affordable way of shooting HD video while implementing a tapeless workflow. It comes functional with raft of frame-rate choices for slo-motion as well as formats such as 720 24p and 1080i, the later of which is not true 1080 but just the 720 converted on the fly.  It supports solid-state P2 media as well as mini DV tape if you haven’t ditched it altogether as yet. Rig includes a relatively wide-angle lens which however is not interchangeable. The viewfinder and LCD monitor are low-res, so much so that there aren’t enough physical pixels available to literally be able to see focus (or lack thereof) in HD.  Unlike its predecessor the DVX100 which was the perfect handheld camera conjuring for us images of angles in flight,  the HVX200 has an odd bulbous feeling in your hands and is heavy for handheld shooting.

Time was we’d go out with our Sony PD-150 or Canon XL1 or Sony Hi8 camera the VX3 hoping that this time it would be different and that we wouldn’t come back footage that had that “video look.” The 60i or interlaced field non-aesthetically-pleasing feel. Again and again we’d come back disappointed because our projects did have the gravitas of the film image. And on the days when we shot on expensive cameras like Beta and DigiBeta, it just felt worse and as if money had been flushed down the drain. Well the Panasonic DVX100 camcorder is responsible for revolutionizing film and video production. Now we can shoot 24P at an affordable price and bring back that filmic look as we’re doing for the Sitv living latino lifestyle show Styleyes. The camera includes xlr audio inputs for professional sound recording and performs fantastically in low-light. Best of all, while this is a semipro device, we come back from the field into the edit suite and feel like the filmmakers we’ll always be in our heart of hearts.
