Until such time when a certain bleeding-edge technology that allows you to refocus your shots after shooting them morphs into a compact solution providing shallow depth-of-field no longer dependent on the optics of large pieces of glass in a tube, you can immediately graft said glass tubiness onto your wee iPhone using Photojojo’s iPhone SLR Mount. Attach a telephoto, wide angle, macro or fifty prime — you name it — you’re on your way to that 35mm shallow DOF look. Mashable notes some caveats: your images will be upside down, due to the fact that SLR cameras have a mirror inside them which flips the image right-side up – something that iPhone obviously doesn’t have. Oh heck, that’s no biggy; the Brevis adapter did this in its initial iteration (the footage for this spot and this spot came out of the camera up-side-down). A simple Photoshop script should help you batch rotate stills, while doing so in FCP might be a bit of a manual task. This device is clearly useful as a supplement to you existing kit. For instance, you’re traveling with 5 or 6 lenses; you put a couple of your lenses on say a Canon 7D and 5D that you’re shooting video with simultaneously, you can throw on one of your remaining lenses onto your iPhone to get a third shot. This is the pro alternative to the NEX-VG10. The NEX-FS100 is an E-mount camcorder, but can be adapted to accept a wide range of lenses such as Nikon or say Zeiss primes they already have in their kits like this, this, this or this. The NXCAM comes equipped with a Super 35mm CMOS sensor specifically designed for shooting motion pictures. The large-format sensor’s high sensitivity shoots 1080p60 content at up to 28Mbps to SD to Memory Stick (or an optional 128GB SSD) or output uncompressed 4:2:2 footage over HDMI. Includes a top-mounted, swiveling 3.5-inch LCD display.

Nigel Cooper at DVuser has an extensive review of the Sony NEX-FS100E, and the conclusions he draws are not good:

All-in-all, the FS100 feels like a rushed camcorder. The ergonomics are frustrating, the fixtures and fittings are poor quality, the switches, dials and knobs are all way too small and they feel plasticky with a vague feel i.e. you don’t really know if you have actually pressed a button; you need LCD menu feedback to confirm. The hand-grip on the side wobbles, even when tightened up, so to does the top handle/mic holder, which feels like it is hanging on by its fingernails. Everything about this camcorder feels wrong to me; except the sensor and the quality of images it produces.

With one of only two prototype NEX FS 100 cameras in the world, Den Lennie walks you through the newest model in Sony’s prosumer line. The video also includes test footage in the form of a music video.

We especially wanted to push the low light capability and use the in camera media. It shoots to SD cards, Sony Memory sticks and also has a 128GB FMU which is a solid state pack that integrates with the camera and will give up to 10 hrs record time at 24mb/s AVC HD.

We shot everything at 24mb/s AVC HD and ingested into FCP and transcoded to ProRes 422 using Log and transfer.

Shot over a 36 hr period in one weekend on one of only 2 prototype NEX FS 100 Cameras in the world.

We used 3 lenses:
A Sony Alpha 50mm f1.4 with alpha to emount adaptor
A E mount 16mm f2.8
The Stock lens 18-200 f3.5-5.6
