XWave has joined emerging mind-controlled games and devices, but on the iPhone mobile platform. The iPhone headphone jack is used to connect a headset which allows users to control graphical images. According to the device’s developer,PLX, the device is also open to use with 3rd party applications. Mashable reports relatively accurate results in their testing with mental states states equating to changing visual changes on screen. The headset costs and the app is free. The rig is purely for entertainment, but it doesn’t take much mental imaginings to conjure images of how the technology could be put to amazing uses. Like controlling you phone using only your mind — would be great for hands-free driving and keeping radiation exposure to a minimum. For now it seems the other way around, with our iPhones controlling us like sirens, beckoning us to check email, read e-books and shoot video.
